Whether you have lined, unlined, sheer drapes or valances that need a good cleaning, Splendid Services Group can help maintain your window treatments so they look great and last for years to come.
Lined drapes or curtains can be identified by the additional material on the back of the drapes. This added material helps to protect the drapes from too much sun exposure that can lead to damage. Fading, and fibre degradation can permanently damage your drapes or curtains.
Sheer drapes can be found behind unlined drapes or by themselves. These types of curtains add privacy as well as natural light to the space. Sheer drapes should be professionally cleaned regularly since they collect the most dust and soil.
Valances can be a perfect finishing touch to your window treatments. These pieces should be professionally cleaned regularly to avoid the build up of dust and soil. Valances typically need to be disassembled and reassembled by our team for proper cleaning
Manually operated shades are removed for cleaning at our workroom where we use long tubs and specially designed work tables to soak and thoroughly clean them. We have achieved excellent results on even very soiled shades. We also offer repairs of broken chains and clutches on shades that are brought in for cleaning.
Solar shades, are usually made of a heavy vinyl like fabric that has small perforations in it to allow some light in, and perform the task of cutting down on the damaging effects of the sun’s ultraviolet rays. Blackout shades are appropriately named since their purpose is to black out all light and are used mainly in bedrooms
Drapery is NEVER put in a dry cleaning machine where it could easily get damaged or shrink. By doing all our work by hand we can effectively eliminate any fear of damage or shrinkage which is often a major concern when using a traditional dry cleaner.
Depending on the fabric, we may clean sheers using a water based wet cleaning process. We repeatedly hand wash and rinse the sheers in long tubs designed specifically for this purpose and then hang them to dry. Once everything is dry we steam the sheers by hand to remove any wrinkling..
We clean all traditional shades including lined and sheer Roman shades and balloon shades. We also clean fabric top treatments including valances, cornices, and swags.
Cleaning elaborate top treatments is not an issue since the fabric is cleaned by hand while it is still attached to the pole or board that it is mounted to. The top treatment is not deconstructed for cleaning so you can be sure when it is rehung it will hang just as it did originally.
We clean both types of roller shades either onsite or at our shop.
Many of the shades we clean are motorized and require onsite cleaning. Our multistep process includes a thorough Hepa vacuuming, cleaning by hand using eco-friendly solutions, and dry vapour steam to sanitize the fabric.
For those shades that can be removed, we prefer to take them back to our shop for a deep cleaning in the very long tubs we designed specifically for this purpose. Immersing the shades is the most thorough way to clean the fabric and is our method of choice whenever possible.
Shades come in different fabrics, with some being more serviceable than others. The good news is the vast majority of shades we clean look virtually new when we are done.
Solar shades may yellow over the years especially if they have been exposed to strong sun for many years. While we can totally remove the soot from the fabric we cannot turn back the hands of time!
If your shades are manually operated, have chains to raise and lower them, please call us to remove the shades BEFORE the other contractors start their work.
By having us in first, we can take responsibility for the safe removal of the shades. The only thing we ask of you is to tell your contractor to either leave the mounting brackets attached to the wall and work around them or if they do take them down that they reinstall the brackets before we return.
Solar shades, like all window treatments, need periodic maintenance to remove the buildup of soot, dust, dander and other pollutants that circulates in homes and offices even if the windows are rarely if ever opened. If by chance you live in Manhattan and do leave your windows open, a clear line of soot will form in a very short time and heavy accumulation will certainly occur that most often will cause some level of permanent discoloration.
To help avoid permanent discoloration it is best to remove the soot every 1-3 years. Some solar shade fabrics are more serviceable than others and will clean very well even if left unmaintained for 10 years while other fabrics will become permanently discolored in a much shorter time.
